The World needs to know it is safe, The Registration Act is the Law

Time: 12.20pm

Location: 20 miles out from New York City

Ross looked out the window of his plane as he made his way towards New York, everything that they had been working towards was finally starting to pay off, finally the country was starting to see metahumans as the threat that they were to their way of life. Ross had learned that lesson from his years of chasing the Hulk and what that process had cost both him and his country, the Incredible Hulk was an engine of destruction that had to be stopped at all costs and now he was being celebrated as a hero. Banner wasn't a hero and it saddened him to see that monster standing beside men like Steve Rogers who had proven his valor time and time again in service to his country and as much as he wanted to there wasn't any way that he could bring himself to think badly of the Captain. He had read everything about him when he was a boy and had always thought of Steve Rogers as his hero, hell he had used him as an example for many of the men under his command over the years about how a soldier was supposed to behave and though he had taken a stand against the Government, this country had a history of her soldiers taking moral stands and there were few that could ever question Steve Rogers dedication to his country. But the growing threat posed by Metahumanity needed to be addressed which was why he had gotten involved with this when it had first been raised in the halls of power, there were so many groups involved in the more shadowy areas of the Government that you had to choose which ones to join and thankfully his long years of service had taught him how to exist in that area. Working to bring in the Hulk had brought him into some strange circles over the years but now those contacts were all working together to finally bring a resolution that they call all live with and if it meant bending the Constitution he was fine with that, peace and security was always worth it.

Ross looked at the signed Executive Order directing him to carry out the directives specified now made legal under the amended Superhuman Registration Act, they were to investigate the Xavier Institute and register any and all metahumans on site. It was going to be a provocation to be sure but Ross was also certain that it would draw out Rogers and the rest of them and then they could deploy their counter measure and round them all up once and for all. Hammer Industries had been working around the clock to get the prototypes finished and their production line up and going, normally they would have used Stark whose Iron Man armor was the cutting edge when it came to Personal Armor technology. There was no one even close but the unit that Hammer had designed should do the job along with the troops he had sent to that school and if there were a cost to it they could always blame it on the metahumans who start the fight, the day that Wolverine broke Dr. Grey out of the Ryker's Island facility he had handed them the opportunity that they had been searching for. He had always known that Logan would be the one to screw things up for Rogers, he was a true hero but Logan was nothing but an animal and like all animals he bit the hand that fed him and now Rogers and everyone that followed him were going to pay the price, once they had gotten the security footage of what he had done everything had started to fall into place. They had also been training their own metahuman soldiers had been ever since the attack in New York, the last thing that he wanted was to rely on the AVENGERS for the security of this Nation, that just wasn't going to happen so they went on their own recruitment drive in the ranks of all the military and discovered they had a few metahumans to choose from, unexpected but they all believed in things he could get on board with like following orders.

Ross glanced at his watch, it was just past Midday and their forces were going to arrive within the next couple of hours. The Heavy units would be kept away until Captain Rogers arrived with his people but he had additional reserves in place that could be delivered by aircraft that were orbiting the city just waiting for his order. About the only thing that he was saddened about was that he wouldn't be on site himself, he was heading to Stark Tower to make sure that he understood his position and that he was to be a good boy and stay home, Stark had never been that good at obeying orders so he was making his way there himself to make sure the point was rammed home. His troopers had all been ordered to use non-lethal weaponry but once the situation turned and the others showed up then they would be allowed to properly defend themselves but under no circumstances were they to open fire on any of the children, those were visuals that would conflict with their narrative and they were still firming up the publics view on this move. Bending the Bill of Rights was never something that Americans found comfortable but it was amazing how much they were willing to give up to feel safe, all that he needed was for Banner to show up again so that he could put that monster back where he belonged, marked as property of the US Army. The pilot came over the intercom and announced that they would be landing soon and that there would be an escort waiting for him to arrive, that was another thing that he was glad of, if there was one thing he had learned it was that a man only had a limited amount of time, perhaps the one thing he was glad of from his heart attack.

It was a typical August day, the sun was shining but it was too warm for the children to be running around outside and since the pool had to be repaired after last week's mishap the students were stuck indoors. Scott was left in charge of the mansion as Charles was in Washington, he hated not being there with the Professor but he knew he had to hold down the fort. Like the Professor instructed on Father's Day, Scott had arranged for all students who were able to be sent home to their families leaving only the outcasts and orphans in his care.

Kurt had taken a group of students to train in the Danger Room but it was more like playing whenever Kurt was in charge and Scott didn't seem to mind so long as they were busy and working on controlling their powers. He assumed Emma was working with her students, preparing them for the work-load they'd be facing once September rolled around while he was in one of the first-floor classrooms teaching his summer school Math class. Everyone's "favorite" subject.

On the plus side, everyone was safe and sound inside, finding their ways of keeping out of trouble for the most part. They had just had an emergency drill the day before as Scott had the looming fear that the school could be compromised one day. The X-Men had their fair share of enemies and the government could decide to do something about a facility that housed and trained a group of superhuman vigilantes. Cyke tried to make them seem legit by assisting Stark but it wasn't like they were official. Not to mention they already threatened to shut the school down when they learned he was harboring a "wanted fugitive", poor Jean. Surrendering her was one of the hardest things he had to do but his hand was forced, Scott had to protect the students and staff.

My job is to make tomorrow's world better. Always has been.

12.30pm

Hidden SHIELD Base, Brooklyn.

A lot had happened since that last meeting of the AVENGERS where he had tendered his resignation from the team and left to begin his opposition to what he still saw as a challenge to everything that he held dear as an American. The people were as divided as the AVENGERS were and actions on both sides had not helped, he still couldn't help but think that there had been a better way of dealing with those guards when Logan had been fighting to rescue Dr. Grey but there was just no walking that back now. Once he had gotten her scent in that nose of his what came next was pretty much done, those guards should have known better but Logan could have used his considerable hand to hand combat experience to disable but the rage that Logan had in his heart didn't care about anything other than getting to Jean. Now through that, the Government was moving to institute some of the measures that had been struck down earlier at least that was what he had heard from his contacts within the various departments in the Government. Steve had a lot friends out there who were passing on information to him because they believed in him and the Constitution which was something that they were all sworn to uphold, whatever was coming it was apparently going to be a statement to the entire country that acts like what Logan had committed were no longer going to be tolerated which left a chill up his spine. What they were going to do specifically was still a secret but he had his people watching so that when it happened they would be able to respond but for now all that he could do was wait, something that he had never been that good at.

After doing some reviews of their security and intel from other sources, Steve decided that he needed a workout so he walked into one of the training rooms that they had here, as a former SHIELD base they had some pretty could facilities here. One of them was a training room that could he could use that had combat drones, that was something Logan had recommended actually but he had never taken the time to try it out so he walked into the control room and made the selections that he wanted. He wanted a solid work out so chose the settings that Logan had recommended and walked out into the middle of the room while the computer cycled, Fury had always been one to insist that his people be combat ready at a moments notice which would explain why even facilities like this had a state of the art combat simulator available for them to train with. As the facility started to darken, his hearing picked up on the sound of gears moving and heavy feet stamping towards him and his hands tightened in response, he could feel the adrenaline in his body starting to pump as he unconsciously prepared for combat. It was hard to remember a time when he wasn't fighting, it seemed as if his entire life had been about fighting one thing or another and the only thing that had never changed was his passion and love for the country of his birth. So many things about the modern world confused him but essentially he has found that the core truth of most Americans still held to the same beliefs that they had back during the war, they had just become a little more jaded than he remember, then as the training droids opened fire Steve did what came naturally and hurled his shield as he charged into the fray once more.

Take my love, take my land, take me where i can not stand.
I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me.
Tony was busy in his workshop fixing up his new suit after it's little test run the other day. It was coming along nicely and it fixed some of the issues he was having with the last one. Brushing a little lubricant off his hands onto a towel he adjusted one of the pistons in the back before hooking it back up to the computer so he could finish installing the data into it. This had been another fun project, not since building Spiderling his suit had Tony really sat down and had some fun for himself on a new suit. As the hardware installed itself onto his new suit Tony hear FRIDAY come over the speaker. "Boss, I have downloaded everything from today's intel gathering on Ross sir." Tony unhooked the Iron suit from the computer again and stood there a moment.

"Download the files to my phone FRIDAY, I'll watch them up in the penthouse." Tony tossed the towel over the back of his chair and headed towards the door. "Lights out." The lights in the work room went out as Tony walked into the hallway of Stark tower and headed for his elevator. Turning on his phone he started playing the files as he received them looking them over while he stepped into the elevator. "Penthouse floor." Tony spoke up so his elevator could get his voice command and bring him up to the penthouse level. Tony continued to watch and listen to the files being downloaded to his phone. He remained quiet as the information was dumped to him, his eyes narrowing a little as the look of worry crossed his face. "FRIDAY." Stark looked up from his phone when the elevator doors opened and Stark stood out into his penthouse. "We have some things to get done."

Take me out into the black, tell em I ain't coming back.

I am the best there is at what I do
12.40pm

Hidden SHIELD Base, Brooklyn.

Ever since Logan and the team had busted Jean out of that prison facility, he had been considering the price that he was going to have to pay for that decision. This was something that he had kept from Jean because she would feel damn guilty about the lives he had taken to free her, she was too good a person not to but sometimes the world didn't give a damn about good people which was why people like him were around because they could do the things that the good people couldn't, at least that was what he told himself as he tried to find ways of living with himself. Jean had made the decision to stay with him after she was arrested and slowly their relationship has grown until they were now officially a couple and he readily admitted that he loved her more than life itself, it was strange having something to live for finally but now that he had Jean in his life there was nothing more he wanted to do than live which was going to be an issue for his enemies he was sure. But it did bring something to mind that the Professor had tried to teach him a long time ago, that there had to be more to life than just living, you had to have something to live for at the time he thought that the old man had just been trying to give him some of that sage life advice that he handed out to the other students but he had been trying to tell him something important. That was what he discovered when he had been in that facility, that he had something more important than living, he had Jean and for that, he was willing to pay any price, do whatever he had to so that she could be free but unfortunately that price had been steep. Rogers had taken him to task for the bodies on the deck but they had gotten between him and Jeanie and that was a choice that they had made, the adamantium that tore through them well that was just a consequence of that choice as far as he was concerned but he had to admit that Rogers did have a point about one thing.

The Government were going to use this against them and whatever came down the pipe, that was going to be on him but the thing of it was, he couldn't think of how they were going to do it. At least with Scott signing up with the other side, he should be able to keep the school safe. Despite the differences they had, he knew absolutely that Scott would always keep the school as his number one priority and he would never allow anything to get in the way of that. That was one of the few things that he actually admired about that idiot, his unswerving dedication to the dream that the Professor had shared with them all, in many ways he was the true representative of what the dream meant and the kind of person that it could create. That was what had been plaguing him ever since, what the next move was going to be because he knew that there was going to be a next move and whatever it was, it was going to be big. They had hit them hard these last couple of raids and their public profile had grown thanks to the fact that they were being led by Captain America himself, they had already started with this counter narrative that he had generated with the body count. Logan had been around long enough to know a psyop being run, they were preparing the ground for their opening move so that went they moved ahead they would have the public's support. They had to counter the powerful narrative that Steve Rogers gave them, they had to swing the momentum that they had generated because despite everything that had happened, the public still believed in Captain America. Hell, they had all grown up with his stories and the legends generated around him and the Howling Commandos, this was going to be big as he looked over to their bedroom and wondered if he should go back in there to keep Jean company or if he should start cooking their lunch.

think of me fondly

She couldn't sleep.

Jean spent some time at the hidden SHIELD base in Brooklyn. Though a part of her had been itching to confront those who have persecuted them. It couldn't be this way, Jean thought. It couldn't be that they would be in hiding forever. It had to stop, and it had to end as soon as it could. Jean knew she wasn't a fugitive, she was just doing what she thought was right.

The past few nights have been terrible in terms of her sleep. Jean knew that the nightmares came when something was about to happen. They were graphic- extreme violence, gore, pain to those she loved. It always woke her up in cold sweats. It would be the face of Logan that would let her know that it was just a dream- but what if it wasn't? What if it was something that was about to happen?

She saw them. All of them. The men in guns coming into the school and shooting down all the students. She could feel the pain, the pain of the bullet piercing through one's skin and stopping the heart in its tracks. It was a sea of blood that crowded the school. Humans who mercilessly shot mutant children because they disobeyed. It was the same picture every night- and nobody was out there to save them. Nobody could.

She saw Logan as she headed out. "I still can't sleep." was all she could say.

Nightcrawler wasin the Danger Room teaching his class about stage fighting, which turned into real fighting once the kids got bored of pretending to hit each other and fall down. Scott just assumed they were "playing" as usual, which wasn't completely wrong but it wasn't completely true either. Kurt just knew how to make his classes fun which certainly wasn't a crime.

"Rico, Ziggy, your turn."

Kurt said with a grin as two students stepped forward. The boy Rico was a scorpion-like mutant with wings while the girl, Ziggy, was a child genius. He had asked his class to pair off the week before, pick out a dueling scene from a movie and recreate it. Of course it had to be a dramatic scene as well. Ziggy and Rico picted the duel between Enigo and the 6-fingered man from The Princess Bride with Rico playing the 6-fingered man. Ironic since the boy didn't have any fingers at all, just scropion-like pincers and legs. They were given wooden swords for combat and while the primary goal was to develop their acting chops they certainly were developing thier combat skills as well. Using their own moves to battle while reciting the lines.

"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Said Ziggy with a cocky grin as she lunged at her scene partner.

"Stop saying that!"

Exclaimed Rico who memorized his lines perfectly. Kurt watched his students duel and he couldn't help but drift off into a daydream, lost in the thoughts of fathers and families. He still felt deeply saddened knowing his own family, the one he made here at Xavier's was still torn apart and while he fully supported Scott's goal of making the X-Men better by gaining the public's good favor. Something that seemed to be working somewhat, which was surprising but wonderful at the same time. Kurt still wondered how Logan and the others were doing, he missed them terriblyand prayed every night for thier safe return back homeand often wondered if things would ever go back to normal.

You can try but I'm free and you won't conquer me
The female knew she was pushing her luck, but she wasn't quite ready to leave her home, not quite yet. The Mansion was where she had grown up. It was where she matured from a naive, young girl into the mature woman she was starting to become. It represented everything she held dear. Everyone she held dear.

But, despite her reluctance to leave, Kitty could feel it creeping up on her. She knew that one day, she would have no choice but to leave, or end up like Jean. She had been tranquilized and strapped to a table, to prevent her from using her telepathic abilities. Kitty could phase through walls, and if they couldn't find another way to subdue her abilities, then they would do the same to her. And the brunette shuddered to think what Logan would do if he found out. He had left a trail of bodies laying in their wake when he realized it was Jean who had been arrested. It was likely he would do the same for her.

That was something they could not allow. Logan's berserk rage had had dire consequences. The government and the media had jumped on the evidence like vultures, and quickly spun a tale of how the men had been innocent, the prisoners held within deadly, and their rescuers mad. They had lost quite a few sympathizers, the female was sure. But through it all, Kitty did not place fault with Logan. If anyone was to blame, it was the government.

A sigh escaped the female, as she sat back in her chair, spinning around to face the computer again. Taking a bite out of the turkey and cheese sandwich she made, the female stared at the code one of her students had wrote for their rudimentary coding class. It was only natural that Kitty, a major in computer sciences and an adept hacker in her own right, was the teacher of the course. This however, was her least favorite part. Coding was a tedious task, but it was essential in this day and age.

She only wished there was a more proficient way of grading it.

diamonds in the sky

The emergency drill yesterday showed Emma that her decision to align with them was the smartest so far. At least in the landscape of today's political turmoil and the lack of the sense of security for those who were different. It almost seemed like peace was not an option- which was not a problem at all for the manipulative White Queen.

First, the school had infrastructure. So despite what would happen on the outside, it seems like the students could be protected enough if they knew the routes and the rooms that really mattered. They had a process they followed- there was order and organization. It wasn't going to be all these people simply in a panic. It would be far from that. And at least Emma was with those who were just like her. At least inside the school, there was a feeling of safety.

"So, you there. What is your name again?" Emma wanted to roll her eyes but she prevented herself from doing so. There was still so much to learn about being a teacher. It was just a small class, not too many wanted to learn economics. "If you could share to the class how you understand the law of supply and demand...." there was no care in Emma's voice. It was piercing, it was cold- but at the same time, she knew this what the students needed. A little tough love. She wasn't Emma Frost for nothing.

But there was a chill in the air as she conducted her class. Something didn't feel right. Or was it just her affinity to the psyche?

She felt tense, this was far too public for her liking. While there had not exactly been a press conference that today was going to be the day that the government signed up the Xavier Institute's students it was also not nearly as secret as the spy would have liked. This was the sort of symbolic event that in reality meant very little, but would bring Steve Rogers out of the shadows. It had enough echoes of past historical events to push his buttons and the potential for unwanted violence was there. She flexed her right hand, making a fist in frustration then relaxing it. Rogers was a great man, but in his naivety he was a hypocrite. He would show up believing that he was doing something to protect the kids that were about to be registered and yet his actions would provoke a battle that would in turn endanger the students. Once more rather than swallow his damn pride and work within the system for a better outcome he would simply give everyone more of a reason to support Registration by proving that heroes needed to be monitored and supervised.Romanoff knew Rogers, but she was not the only one in the Pro-Registration camp who did. That they were not already here waiting for him to arrive was slightly surprising, but then again Romanoff also knew that it was likely that General Ross was not yet showing all his cards. Ross wasn't as brilliant a military mind as Rogers but he wasn't stupid. He'd know that Rogers and his team would be showing up and have something planned. In turn Rogers would know that Ross would know that and have his own counter-measures.It was an escalation that spelled disaster. Gesturing to one of the agents setting up she said, "Alright, let's get this started."If they could get the formalities of paperwork done quickly enough maybe, though not likely, they could be gone before Rogers showed up and avoid the entire conflict. That, Romanoff knew, was wistful thinking. Rogers was nothing if not prompt and would show up at the worst possible time... for everyone. circe

Summer break was great, it meant having Cassie over more often instead of just the weekends like when she was in school. Of course, that meant spoiling the 9-year-old with movie marathons and ice cream for breakfast. Not every day, just enough to make sure he was "the favorite" in Cassie's eyes. So long as her mother and Paxton didn't find out it would all work out fine.....probably.

That morning Scott had made Eggo waffles for breakfast, something on par with his cooking skill level. Then they spent hours watching The Real Ghostbusters cartoon on DVD, Scott found one of the best parts of having a kid was sharing all the things he loved as a child with her. After showing her that blast from the past and turning Cassie into a new Ghostbuster fan it was time for lunch. He ordered sandwiches from a place a few blocks away and the two played a game of checkers while waiting for their food. Soon there was a knock at the door, Scott jumped up assuming it was the delivery guy and when the door flung open he was met with the grizzled old face of his "mentor" Dr. Henry Hank" Pym.

"Hello Scott, how's life treating you?"

"Ah, Hank....what a pleasant and totally unexpected surprise to see you here....at my house...without a phone call ahead of time."

Scott said with a half-assed grin as he tried to feign that he was glad to see the old man.

"Uncle Hank!"

The little girl shouted with glee as she ran from the living room to the front door to wrap her arms around Dr. Pym's waist.

"At least someone's happy to see me, I swear Cassie, you get bigger every time I see you."

The affectionate little girl brought a sincere smile to the elderly man's face, reminding him of Hope before he lost her mother. Hank patted the child's head and allowed himself inside Lang's apartment so he could sit on his couch.

"I just wanted to drop by and check in on my protege, make sure you're not doing anything stupid."

"Wha? That's crazy talk. I got the whole Ant-Man gig under control. I took care of Whirlwind for you didn't I?"

"After you got help from Amadeus and that lovely SHIELD agent."

"Yea well.....still counts."

Scott replied with a slight pout as if it were a small blow to his ego that he couldn't figure it out on his own, unlike Hank who was a super-genius.

NOTES: Uh oh, Peter's in trouble
Peter leaned down over his desk and gave a beaker hidden within his desk drawer a little stir. He had finished the day's experiment, testing various items for their starch content, and while waiting for class to be over was attempting to discretely mix up a batch of web fluid. The hard part was not drawing tons of attention to himself. While he didn't think that other kids at super-kid high would reveal his identity to the world, he still didn't feel completely comfortable being open with his Spider-Man alternate identity. Sure, Tony had insisted that the administration, at least, knew who he was. But there was no reason other kids needed to know, unless they figured it out themselves.

The fluid was expanding at the usual rate and everything was going normally. Several of the other students in the accelerated chemistry class were also done. One had constructed a rather sophisticated paper airplane of card stock and paperclips, and when he loosed it into the air it vanished a few inches from his hand only to suddenly reappear right as it impacted another student in the back of his head. Another pair of lab partners appeared to be conducting a Pokemon battle by animating water from the lab sink and fire from the Bunsen burner into the shapes of Pokemon. It was then that Doctor McCoy called the class to attention. “It looks like just about everybody is finished with their experiment. If you've collected all your data, then I see no reason why you need to remain here till the end of period. Remember that your lab reports are due Monday at the beginning of the lecture. Class dismissed.” he said.

Peter leaned down to begin to put his books together in his bag, figuring he'd come back for the web fluid later, when the classroom was unoccupied. However as he began to rise from the desk Doctor McCoy called him over, “Mister Parker, might I have a word with you?”

Peter's stomach about fell out of him at the request as his mind raced with a million worst-case-scenarios of what might possibly be wrong. He had about convinced himself that he was about to be expelled for... well he wasn't sure why yet, when he reached the desk. He adjusted the collar of his shirt and swallowed hard as he said, “Y-yes, Doctor McCoy?”

“Peter, a bright boy like you... well I have to say I'm disappointed in you.”

“Disappointed, sir?” he asked, feeling his face already begin to redden.

“Did you honestly expect I wouldn't notice whatever it was you were doing in your desk drawer? Go... turn it out. Let's see what it was you were working on.”

Peter swallowed hard. “I'd prefer if we didn't, Doctor McCoy. It's...” he leaned in to whisper, “My web fluid. I don't want people to see. I have a secret formula.”

The Doctor didn't seem particularly surprised by that revelation. “I see. Well we can't have you working on that in a desk drawer, at the very least it's like to cement the drawer shut permanently. At the worst... well that would depend on what it is you use in your formula. But if you want lab space to work on a personal project like that, all you have to do is ask and we can find you time when the lab is unused. In the future, I would prefer you spend any extra time you have if you finish your lab in my class perhaps getting a head start on your lab report.”

All at once relief washed over Peter's face. “Yes, sir.” he said, not even hiding the relief a little. “It won't happen again. And thank you.”

Warren had been staying in the mansion a little bit in his room there. He hadn't really felt like delving too much back into the life of the rich kid that is Warren Worthington. It was just a bit of hassle that he wasn't really feeling like dealing with at the moment. He laid in bed, relaxing as he flipped through his phone. His wings sticking out behind him as he glanced back to them. He didn't need to hide them here and yet, they still felt so foreign to him.

Warren stood up and observed himself in a mirror, sighing as he clenched his fists. He wasn't really one to deal with the students, moping around and all that wasn't really the kind of thing anyone looked for in a teacher. But where he lacked in that regard, he often donated significant sums of money to this place out of the fortune he'd inherited from his father. It was the least he could do, but yet - he still wondered if there was something more that he could do..

He adjusted himself as he stood up and began to pull on a light blue t-shirt and a pair of jeans to cover up his body, considering he'd only been wearing his white boxer shorts. He let out a yawn as he began to exit his room and headed out into the school. He walked down the hall, his wings visible though bunched up on his back a bit as he passed various students. "Aren't you kids late for a class of some kind?"

The kids nodded with quick responses of 'Yes Mr. Worthington!' and went on their way to whatever class they may have been missing or about to be late for. Warren strolled the halls of the school, peeking through the doors to each class as he went by. These kids had so much to learn but, this actually took him back a bit. It took him back to a time when he was a bit more like them... But little did he know they may all get their first brush with the reality of the world they live in sooner, rather than later.

with the shape of you

Drops of sweat occupied her face at it poured down as if she had just come out from the shower. This was a position that was difficult to say the least. Albeit years of her body being trained to take the place of various forms- no matter how flexible Betsy could be; there were still come challenges that her body had to go through. It was indeed a testament to the fact that no body was ever in its perfect place of perfection- it could always get better and better.

Her legs were stretched wide and her back was not holding unto any surface. Her palms had made contact with the floor, pushing down on it as it supported the weight of her body. She arched her form and echoed a gentle moan. It's been so long since she's done this. It's been so long since she's been back in the game.

"Alright!" a man's voice wrapped them up. As she fell to her knees she was catching her breath. Yoga was not as simple as she remembered it to be. But it helped her relax. As a mutant, the lack of focus would be a barrier to her full control of her telepathy and telekinesis. It was not easy for Betsy to zoom in on little things; it would be much easier to destroy an entire wall than pick up a fork with her mind. And yoga, ideally, helped.

But that wasn't the only thing that brought her here.

She woke up today with a different sense of danger. It wasn't because of her abilities; no. She wasn't a fortune teller. It was most likely brought about by her affinity to the balance around her. Something didn't seem right. She figured a little meditation would lead her to the bottom of it- but it didn't. The same scratching feeling in her heart was ever present. What could this be?

Betsy stood up and found herself staring out the window. She could see the institute from here. Her home, her fortress. She tilted her head as she chewed on her bottom lip. She was trying to piece together the puzzle. Was she led here by her instincts on purpose? There was a thousand yoga studios in New York City; why this one? She turned around and looked to the shower. This could be more than a sign.

It had taken a bit of convincing to get Abby into Kurt's drama-based class, but here she was almost a month in and had to admit she'd been quite enjoying it. She was actually pretty good at it, too, so she thought. She hadn't expected artistic skills to come so easily to her, if she was honest. She would've expected that of Ashlynn, with how easily her mind seemed to wander. Or maybe Alexa with her telepathy, maybe she could've picked up a few tricks from some actor's head. She never would've expected it of herself.

She stood next to her partner, a tall boy who was about the same age as her, with hair he'd dyed blue. Far as she knew, he had some sort of water manipulation abilities. But, of course, a lot of the other students were taller than her. She'd started wondering if the crystallization of her bones was somehow stunting or otherwise messing with her growth. She hoped she didn't end up this short forever...

She and her partner, Blake, had decided to do a scene from Les Miserables, one of the few DVDs Abby had held on to during her years in the foster system. It was an older version that had come out a few months before her mother's death. The scene they chose was the confrontation between Javert and Valjean, right after Fantine's death. It was one of her favorite scenes in the whole movie. She related to it, sort of. Cosette's mother had died, and then this man was fighting for a girl he'd never met.

She watched Rico and Ziggy, two other mutants who she'd never really talked to before, as they performed their scene. It almost wasn't fair, since Rico had wings and could fly. But they didn't always get to be up against fair odds, and they had been allowed to pick their partners. So, fairness was probably not an issue others had thought about. She found herself hoping it would be their turn next. All the waiting was making her nervous, though her posture said nothing to betray her feelings. She stood with her weight primarily on her left foot, with her right bent at the knee, and her arms crossed over her chest. There was a look on her face that could've been mistaken for thoughtful, as she watched the others perform, but there were some tense lines around her eyes that would give away her nervousness to a keen observer. It was a bit odd, all things considered. She'd been willing to run into the Federal Reserve without a second thought, but acting class was making her nervous. No, it was because of the scene. She'd never acted a singing part in front of anyone who wasn't direct family, despite claims from others who told her she had a good voice.
